Site Type:
Motorhomes for Sale - Vehicle Database based on OpenAutoClassifieds.
Site Launched: Feb 2007 Latest Report:
Mar 2007 Brief: We
built Graham Marchant at Select First Motorhomes a brand new site, with a
new domain name, to eventually replace his old one. We used;
-
An outer HTML-based
informational site with static pages which gave us full control on all
on-page" and "off-page" elements for maximum SEO options. We've researched
and targeted the most relevant "high-use" keywords across the range of "motorhomes
campervans, RV buy, sell, rent" spectrum. Every page targets a pair of 1st
Tier keywords, plus 2nd tier keywords are used as "exact match" in the body
text.
-
The
OpenAutoClassifieds listings database is contained within a subdirectory (to
extend keywords in URL's.)
-
A WordPress
blog - fully SEO'd - to distribute product news and reviews etc, is in a
second subdirectory. The blog search engine optimisation includes dynamic
Optimal Titles and Meta Head Description Tags, meta-relationships links, and
URL rewrites are done into verbose page names with HTML extensions using /%postname%.html.
Full "ping list" is installed, plus the "No Ping Wait" plugin to speed
postings via a "post now, ping later" mechanism.
500+ submissions commenced in
January, as soon as we had
some HTML content pages available. Graham placed multiple links on his old site
to the new site, as soon as content was available. The "vehicle database" went live in
mid-Feb 2007. Google Page
Rank is still PR-0!
Result: The chart below shows Search Engine Ranking results achieved
since this new site went live in Feb - first SE Ranking report was not run until
late 23rd March 2007, but already its showing a few Top 30 search engine ranking
results across UK, Australia and New Zealand - which is where most of his
customers come from!
However, of greater significance
is his TRAFFIC growth! The AWStats traffic chart shows his site's
traffic growth is pretty good! J The
other aspect is that there are high "repeat visitor" numbers, and they are
opening an average of 12 pages per visit, consuming 500kb of bandwidth per
visit! This has caused some problems - including having to adjust his hosting
Package TWICE upwards in 2 months because he consumed his bandwidth allowance
before month-end! He's gone from a 1Gb deal, to a 2Gb deal, and on 24th March he
decided to move to a 10Gb package to prevent his site
going temporarily offline (again) due to exceeding bandwidth for the month!

MARCH 2007 -
While I am working on the Blog SEO, the site goes temporarily
offline due to exceeding bandwidth allocation! The crisis involves
consultation with the Hosting Company guy!
J
As follows;
The server
is temporarily unable to service your request due to the
site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try
again later.
Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.motorhomes-buy-sell-rent.com

Can't
be right, surely! :-) ???
Kind regards, Ben
Hiya
Ben,
I’ve
stretched his limit temporarily, but realistically we’re going to
have to ask him to upgrade. It’s looking as though he’ll hit 3-4
gigs by the end of this month!
It
seems that he is a victim of your success
J.
I’m just looking at his AWStats and he’s been averaging 100MB of
hits a day all month! He’s taken nearly 2000 unique visitors this
month and nearly 4000 visits! It’s basically DOUBLED on last months
total figures, and we’re only 2/3 of the way through this month!
Mate,
if I wasn’t a believer in your abilities before (which I am), I sure
as hell would be convinced now!
J
J
You should use this guy as a reference site!
J
Anyway regarding the upgrade, do you want to broach it with him, or
are you happy to leave it to me? Let me know soonest.
Cheers, Jon Walker -

This Case Study shows
clearly that a new site CAN achieve early results, providing it has good
links, good referring traffic, is well optimised and designed, and has
valuable content!
-
This clearly demonstrates the value of
carefully optimising your site for the search engines to
ensure its theme is obvious, all content is organised, properly described,
and accessible for indexing.
-
This, coupled with building good-quality
1-Way Back Links containing relevant keywords, delivers solid, long-term
gains.
